Practical Nursing Program:

    • Twelve Month Full Time Day Program:

      This program provides 525 hours of classroom instruction, 150 hours of laboratory instruction and 480 hours of clinical instruction for a total of 1155 hours of training. Students enrolled in this program attend school four days per week. The program is divided into three sessions and each session lasts fifteen weeks. There is an intersession week between sessions. Refer to program curriculum for additional information

    • Practical Nursing Program Preparatory Classes:

      Applicants to the practical nursing program who were denied admission for due to identified academic deficiencies, as determined through the placement testing, may be required to enroll in and successfully complete the following courses: BIO 99 - Medical Terminology and/or MA 100 - Medication Mathematics. Upon successful completion of BIO 99 and MA 100, student may reapply and be considered for admission to the practical nursing program. Students in this category may be allowed to enroll in any of the non-nursing classes while waiting to be accepted in the practical nursing program.

    • Undeclared Students (Non-Matriculated Students). Undeclared students may be allowed to enroll in any of the following non-nursing courses:

     

     

    1.       BIO 100 - Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology

    2.       BIO 200 – Microbiology

    3.       HL 100 - Nutrition

    4.       PS 101 - Human Lifespan

    5.       PS 201 – Introduction to Psychology

     


Practical Nurse Program Mission Statement and Program Goals

The mission of the practical nursing program at HHCI is to provide practical nursing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for practice as an entry-level practical nurse. To provide the student with lifelong learning skills and strengthen the student's ability to analyze and solve problems creatively and apply critical thinking skills in the delivery of safe and effective nursing care to meet the basic human needs of their clients. To graduate students with leadership skills who are culturally sensitive and demonstrate a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

Program Goals:

The graduates of the Practical Nursing Program at HHCI will:

  • Acquire scientific knowledge and basic nursing skills to assume responsibility for providing basic nursing care to clients with varied healthcare needs
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in prioritizing and applying nursing care to clients with varied health care needs
  • Participate collaboratively in the nursing process providing safe and effective care to clients with varied healthcare needs
  • Demonstrate competency to fulfill the entry level role of the practical nurse
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, cultural sensitivity, positive attitude and a strong work ethic
