FAQ's About Admission to HHCI
- I would like to transfer to HHCI and enter the practical nursing program. How should I proceed?
If you have previously taken courses elsewhere and plan on transferring your credits to HHCI, you must formally submit the request in writing along with your official transcript to the Admissions Office for review. Once your official transcript is received and reviewed, the Admissions Office will schedule you for validation testing. A minimum required passing grade must be achieved on the validation test in order for HHCI to approve the requested credit transfer. - Is there ever a waiting list?
Yes there is a waiting list. If a class fills and if we are admitting a class each semester, students who meet the admission criteria have the option to enter the program the next semester. There is an applicant pool and students are considered competitively for the next semester based on all qualifications, but the following criteria play a significant role: Performance on placement and/or entrance testing, and the admission interview. The best qualified applicants will be selected first until the class is filled. However, applicants who were not accepted in the program due to academic weakness may be enrolled in the preparatory program (Medication Mathematics and Medical Terminology). Others who were not accepted for other reasons are welcome to start taking general education courses, including Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition, Human Lifespan, and Introduction to Psychology. Note that these courses are transferable to the practical nursing program. - How many students are in the applicant pool?
The number of applicants in our applicant pool changes all the time and truly it is a moving target. Students in the applicant pool may not all meet the admission requirement at the same time. Only qualified applicants are accepted based on seat availability. Therefore, do not worry about the applicant pool until you apply. You never know, you might be one of the qualified candidates who will be accepted. - What are the odds of me getting into the program?
Although it is not possible to predict the odds of admission, we can give you some trends. The number of applicants to various nursing programs within the state have increased in recent years as a result of the nursing shortage, increased salaries and the benefit of job security. Admission is competitive, but ultimately, your demonstration of academic rediness by meeting all the requirements is a major deciding factor.
